Free Talk on Equine Feeding - 9th Aug 2010 3:41 pm
Good afternoon,
My name is Emma Hardy and I am the UK Marketing Manager for the equine digestive health company, Freedom Health LLC. In conjunction with our sponsored rider, Lucinda Green we are running a series of free digestive health talks and rider forums.
These talks are aimed at horse owners and riders. They aim to broaden knowledge of the equine digestive system, and include some of the issues which may adversely affect the health and functioning of the gut.
The next free talk will take place at Somerford Park, on Thursday September the 23rd, starting at 6.30pm. As catering will also be provided it is requested that numbers are confirmed by Sept 11th. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Please feel free to pass on these details to your members, and do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

If you or any of your members are unable to attend this talk but you feel that your riding club would benefit from learning more about equine digestive health, I would be happy to arrange a talk at your club and at no cost. Please contact me to discuss.

Kindest regards
Emma

TREC training at Rhiwlas - 7th Aug 2010 9:21 pm

Another great day for the trec participants.  It was good to welcome some new participants, and a new mwmber too. All the horses and riders coped very well with the obstacles, and had fun in the process.  After the success of these training sessions, we have decided to hold a COMPETITION on Saturday 4th Sept, so come along and join in!  There will also be a mini-trec competition for juniors on sunday 5th Sept.  Contact Anita Long for more information.

JUNE TREC TRAINING - 28th Jun 2010 7:58 pm

Another sunny day in Rhiwlas, spent practicing 3 unusual trec obstacles, then doing a map reading exercise.  12 participants came to join in, and all horses and riders did very well.  The juniors, as always showing the adults how it's done.  Many thanks again to Rachel for allowing us to trample all over her land and menage, and for the refreshments.  There is a short article on the obstacles, and some photos in the gallery.

Combined Training - 20th Apr 2010 10:08 pm

Check out the competition results and photos in DRESSAGE page & gallery. Anita

Trec 2010 - 9th Apr 2010 7:35 am

March 30th

Committee member Anita Long
2010 is shaping up to being an exciting year for TREC in North Wales, with the British championships being held at BrynSion, Clwyd in August.
Many of our members have participated in TREC in the past, either at unaffiliated club activities, or competing at affiliated BHS competitions. It is an ideal activity for riders and horses of all abilities, and we hope to inspire many of you to have a go.

Caernarfonshire riding club is aiming to host the following Trec activities during this summer;
  • Map reading training - we’ll start off gently!
  • Obstacles training – perfecting the straight forward ones, and introducing the new ones.
  • Trec competition – Just obstacles, and also a level 1 competition. If we’re any good, we may even challenge other clubs to an inter-club friendly competition.!

Keep an eye on the EVENTS section for details. Once I am out of my plaster cast, there will be some dates posted!! In the meantime, I have put some TREC photos in the gallery...some are from WAY back!

There will be a newsletter after the AGM which will include Christmas Menu and prices and our winter events.

It has been fun being your Chairman this year and Hazel deserves a saints halo for her work and her unsung heros Carla and Bryn also deserve a very big thanks and also to my hubbie for without them and the work they do unquestioningly on show days, the shows would have been impossible to put on. We are also very grateful to our ‘ladies’ who help writing for judges, gymkhana and ring stewarding. Also to Joan and Elsie for running our food caravan and organising the Treasure Hunt. Thank you to all of our helpers for giving you free time to the club.

Yvonne Clarke
Chairman

Chairmans Report 2009 - 15th Feb 2010 10:31 am
Well, this year has seen the credit crunch hit a lot of clubs and we are pleased that we have stayed afloat even though we are down a little on funds. We have seen the departure of North Wales Dressage due to lack of members and interest, even though dressage is a well subscribed sport in our area.

We put on 2 summer shows this year and had to cancel a third because of bad weather, and it took the two shows income to match just the one summer show of last year.

We have paid for and fielded a dressage team at the British Riding Clubs qualifier and were pleased to see one of the team, Caitlin Wroe, come third overall individually and the team placed tenth.

The club funded a show jumping team that unfortunately did not attend in the end. Sending teams is very very expensive and with the current economic climate the committee feel that for the next foreseeable future, teams will have to pay for themselves to compete. We cannot stand the loss of some considerable amount or deem it fair on the rest of the club members who do not participate in competitions in general to pay at this present time, especially when the team does not attend. As you have heard we have made a loss of £191.43 but I still feel we have done relatively ok.

We have also had to think very seriously about the permit ability of phoned in entries. Unfortunately many have rung in their entries, which we in good faith have taken, and then for various reasons, they have failed to attend the show and not paid their entries. Competitors need to understand that we still have to allocate them a time and that we still have to pay the judge, it never means we can bring the competition to a close earlier because people arrive in time to compete in the order they have been allocated in dressage, therefore our expenses remain the same and it has been passed by the committee that no further phone entries will be taken from now on. Every entry must be accompanied by its payment.

We have had several instruction days with Nicki Dowe and Sue Davis, all of which have been splendid. We have had a reasonably well supported Quiz Night and show jumping sessions and dressage shows in the winter. Anita ran a successful Trec training morning and Jo Morris also ran a successful Cross Country Training Day. Mary Korn put on a mock endurance ride earlier this year which was very well attended so accordingly with everyone who had enjoyed it we arranged a second meet a couple of weeks ago and although at least 7 or 8 riders said they would attend only one turned up. This was disappointing and Hazel and Mary had had to pencil out that day and give up their free time, petrol to attend etc for it all to be cancelled. Very disappointing. We acted as arrangers for Crewe Saddlery to run their fitting clinic at Llystyns which was another good and worthwhile day.

We decided to have a website constructed for us which was a large amount of outlay, but we felt due to the past problems we’d had with our previous website that it would be money well spent and in general people expect a website to be available to them. We have also invested in a Caravan for the judges and secretary which has been invaluable this year, we can also make our own teas and coffees and have somewhere out of the weather to keep things clean and tidy. So I think you can say that we have done a lot and spent money wisely for so few of us running the club.

I would like to thank Hazel personally for the use of her home fields which has saved the club hundreds already and to Carla, Joan and Elsie for their continued work as committee. However, this year again we really need you as members to consider coming forward as committee members. At the moment the club doesn’t function properly because of lack of delegation as there is normally only Hazel or myself deciding what we should do and the both of us trying to do it. So now is your time to think about how you could help the club. We are not proposing to disband at the moment but lack of willing helpers and committee could eventually see the club in the same situation as North Wales Dressage. We all realise that commitment to a lot of people is daunting so we propose to make very small appointments, for instance a social secretary would be very much welcome, Junior Show jumping advisor, and the same for junior dressage, Senior show jumping advisor, , by making smaller positions then you would not have to attend all the committee meetings only those relevant to you.

SO while I have told you all we have done this year perhaps some of you could have a think about how you could help to make the 2010 season a success. Tell us what showing classes you would like at the summer shows, do you want music classes, teams, or both for dressage, show jumpers what classes interest you the most??? And for our happy hackers what would you like to see more of. We can put events on but if you don’t support then it is additional expense and work that we, as a committee, are willing to do, seen gone to waste.

Lastly I would like to remind you that we are taking bookings tonight for the Christmas Dinner at the Harp Llandwrog, Tyn Llan, we had a fabulous meal there last year and I cant recommend it highly enough. We had quite a crowd of us in attendance last year and it was a really good family occasion. The menu looks sumptuous this year, and we welcome deposits tonight to secure your place. The menu is available for you to look at. You can book with Joan tonight for a small deposit of £5.00

Lastly thank you all for coming, remember this is your club and it’s good to see so many here! Without your support the club cannot survive so let’s all work to keep our club alive this year. Remember both Hazel and I can be contacted on e mail and we welcome having your e mail address’s so we can send reminders out to you when events are going.
